Technology - You need the latest updates.

Once again it was a dark and stormy night.  Or it may have been day time, it was difficult to tell from this room without a view to the out of doors. Either way I was a dark and stormy night and was waiting on ignore for a human from Mindo-Naz to explain why my Mindo-Naz Thermostat wasn’t responding to my smart phone, or to anything else I had control of.  I had left a text message, a voice message, as well as an email detailing the various seasons that my apartments environmental controls have subjected me to over the last month.

At least my identification hasn’t been stolen, that I know of.  I have an uneasy feeling regarding this it’s as if I’m simply waiting for when not if.  I don’t really have the money to pay one of those Identity Protection companies.  But if I don’t buy their protection and get ripped off, I’ll be in world of hurt.  If I do buy their protection and can’t pay other bills that I should pay, I’ll be in a world of pain.  Not much of a choice.

Everything we buy becomes part of our lives, has tech built into it.  It’s called “The Internet of Things” [IoT] partly because the companies are trying to be helpful and part as a marketing ploy. I’m never sure which way it leans but I’m sure there’s no rule across the industries regarding IoT. Marketing wise IoT fits marketing in the same way words like, “New”, Improved”, Non GMO”, “Gluten Free”, “Improved”, “lasts longer”, “works better”, etc etc etc etc.

In the rush to be the first to get products to market, often times companies will release the product and then later release what are often referred to as ‘updates’.  I was working with a product this past Saturday which stopped working about ten times over the course of five hours.  Today, Monday, I spent the part of the morning working with the company from whom I’d bought the product and then they in turn referred me to the manufacturer.  The company that makes the product told me that I needed the latest update of software for the product and told me where on line I could get that update.  After the install I was to test the equipment myself to see if it would fail again. The gentleman who was giving me this information had never heard of the problem I was having with their product, thus I assume he has no idea of whether the latest update will fix the problem  or not. How could he, he’d never heard of the problem before.

I wonder whether updating our software, lets the powers that be get into your stuff and know where you are.  Or maybe I’m just paranoid.  Or maybe it’s just a matter of time.

I long for simpler times.

September

Summer is my favorite season and Winter is my least favorite season.  The length of the amount of sunshine and temperature being the determining factors.

a new summer!

Summer is my favorite time of year.  I've got some time off coming in the next little while and hope to make the most of it. Top two on my agenda, write a book and/or play out more..... hopefully both.

It'll all be over in a few days.

Oh what weariness fills the air at this time of the election cycle.  such demonizing of all those who don't agree, sometimes even in the smallest of matters.  Ah me.... well it'll all be over in a few days.

I‘m reading a book called "Deliver Us from Evil”

I‘m reading a book called "Deliver Us from Evil” by Ravi Zacharias (in this section he’s also referring to CS Lewis’ ‘The Abolition of Man’)

Here's a little bit of it

"But alas! What have we done to ourselves? We have told a generation that science is real and therefore the human brain is real. We have told them that food is real and therefore our stomachs are real. But we have told them that good and bad do not exist and therefore our emotions have nothing to do with reality. In effect we have produced a generation of “men with brains and men with stomachs. Men with no heart. Men without chests.” Now as we witness wickedness at its worst we wonder how the criminal could be so heartless. ‘In short of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

Illegals and rights

I recently was sent a post that complained about illegals clogging up the courts... here's a couple of my thoughts on the matter.

-=-=-=-=-=-

I’d like to state again, I don’t think people should be here illegally! However, life is not simple and it’s too easy to make broad laws that can be used not only for good, but for evil. Several people have given scenarios of why illegals should have NO rights. I’d like to offer some other scenarios in order to see yet another side of all of this.

Scenario #1: Illegals have NO rights

Organized crime (crime because it’s illegal to do this) brings in humans for various jobs that can turn a profit. Such as sex trafficking. Or other jobs….. and since these illegals have NO rights there’s almost nothing they can do to escape because all their rights have been removed.

Scenario #2: Illegals in all countries have NO rights.

Someone (let’s say an American) is traveling in another country and has lost their ‘papers’ there for they appear to have NO rights and maybe treated in any way the legal citizens of that country wants to treat them. And since this traveler in a foreign country has NO rights they don’t have the rights to contact anyone about finding their papers etc… so they could be proven to be legal.

Scenario #3:

A person with evil tendencies (the world is full of them) discovers an illegal person in their country and decides to take advantage of that illegal, because the illegal has NO rights and because the person with evil tendencies can find advantage for themselves.
